Vinyl or aluminum fence in Florida: which one should you buy?

By the Florida Fence Wholesale team · Published November 1, 2026 · Last reviewed November 1, 2026 · 4 min read

Most Florida fence jobs come down to one question: vinyl or aluminum. Both last in the sun, and neither rusts or rots. The right choice depends on what the fence has to do.

Start with the job

  • Need privacy around a backyard? Vinyl privacy gives a solid screen.
  • Need airflow and a screened view? Vinyl semi-privacy lets air and light through.
  • Need an open view of a pool, lake or garden? Aluminum keeps the sightline clear.
  • Building a pool barrier? Aluminum with self-closing, self-latching gates is the usual choice, and the rules are strict. See our pool fence guide.

Think about the Florida sun

Cheap vinyl yellows and chalks in strong sun. Homeland vinyl has UV inhibitors in every fence profile, which is one reason we sell only Homeland. Aluminum is protected by an AAMA 2604 architectural-grade powder coat. Either way, choose a fence from a manufacturer that publishes its specs and stands behind a written warranty.

Check the rules before you order

Height limits, setbacks and pool barrier rules come from your city, county and HOA, not from the material. In the City of Orlando, for example, fences are limited to 4 ft in front yards and 6 ft in side and rear yards. Read our Orlando permit guide before you pick a height.
